HBL Starts With A Bang for Owls

Holiday Baseball ClassicWestport – The Holiday Baseball League got underway Tuesday night with the Merrimack Owls taking 3 out of 4 games against The Westport Fleas in NL action. The home team won each of the four games in the series on an especially cold, wet and extra-dark night.

Game 1:
Murphy leads Merrimack Owls to 15-11 win over Westport Fleas
An exceptional effort by D Murphy spurred Merrimack Owls to a 15-11 win over Westport Fleas on Tuesday at Brisson Field.

Murphy had four extra-base hits for Merrimack Owls. Murphy homered in the first and third innings and doubled in the fifth and eighth innings.

Merrimack Owls’ Murphy, H Wagner and Bresnehan combined for eight hits and eight RBIs.

Game 2:
Merrimack Owls top Westport Fleas behind Clark’s three hits, 14-7
Tuesday was a great day for J Clark, as he clubbed two home runs to carry Merrimack Owls to a 14-7 victory over Westport Fleas at Brisson Field in eight innings.

Nine runs in the first three innings helped Merrimack Owls blow out Westport Fleas. A two-run home run by Clark in the first inning and an RBI double by W Spahn, a groundout by E Stanky, an RBI single by J McGraw, a two-run home run by Clark, and a home run by D Murphy in the second inning helped Merrimack Owls put some runs on the board early.

Merrimack Owls hit four home runs in the win. Additional home runs for Merrimack Owls came when B Bonds homered in the third inning.

Merrimack Owls pounded Westport Fleas pitching, as seven hitters combined for 14 hits, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Game 3:
Bonds leads Merrimack Owls to 15-5 win over Westport Fleas
B Bonds hit two home runs as he carried Merrimack Owls to a 15-5 win over Westport Fleas at Brisson Field in eight innings.

The offense exploded for the Merrimack Owls in the sixth. In the inning Merrimack Owls scored nine runs.

Merrimack Owls hit four home runs in the win. Home runs for Merrimack Owls came when D Murphy homered in the first inning, J Mize homered in the sixth inning, and Bonds homered in the fourth and sixth innings.

Bonds, T Cobb, Murphy, J McGraw, H Wagner, J Clark, R Bresnehan, and Mize all collected hits for Merrimack Owls. Bonds led the team with three hits.

Game 4:
Merrimack Owls outhit by Westport Fleas in 11-7 defeat
Merrimack Owls lost 11-7 at Asbury Park on Tuesday.

R Bresnehan had two extra-base hits for Merrimack Owls. Bresnehan tripled in the fifth inning, homered in the seventh inning, and singled in the eighth inning.
