Fleas win opener in extra innings

The five runs scored in the ninth on a two-run home run by Dale Murphy, a two-run double by Johnny Damon, and an RBI single by Honus Wagner were not enough to propel the Merrimack Owls past the Westport Fleas as the Owls fall 13-15 in extra innings.

Merrimack Owls’ Murphy was perfect at the dish, going 5-5.

Jody Davis stars as Merrimack defeats Westport, 19-13

Wednesday was a great day for Jody Davis, as he clubbed two home runs to carry Merrimack Owls to a 19-13 victory over The Westport Fleas at Westport.

The Owls blew out Westport Fleas thanks to 16 hits, including nine extra base hits. Scoring six runs in the first on an RBI single by Jimmie Foxx, a two-run double by George Kell, and a three-run home run by Davis.

Additional home runs for Merrimack Owls came when Foxx homered in the fifth inning, Dale Murphy homered in the sixth inning, and Davis homered in the first and seventh innings.

Merrimack Owls pushed across three runs in both the fourth inning and the fifth. In the fourth, Merrimack Owls scored on a two-run double by Ed Delahanty, scoring Eddie Collins and Foxx.

Early lead gives Merrimack Owls easy victory over Westport Fleas, 22-10

The Merrimack Owls refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Westport Fleas, recording a 22-10 victory on Wednesday at Westport.

With 12 runs in the first three innings, Merrimack Owls left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
A groundout by Jimmie Foxx, an RBI single by Ed Delahanty, and a three-run home run by Jody Davis during the first inning and an RBI single by Dale Murphy, a hit by pitch, an RBI single by George Kell, a walk, and an RBI single by Eddie Collins in the second inning supplied the early offense for Merrimack Owls.

Davis racked up five RBIs on three hits for Merrimack Owls.

Merrimack Owls easily handled Westport Fleas pitching as seven hitters combined for 17 hits, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

11 runs enough for Owls to slip past Fleas

Merrimack Owls jumped out to an early lead on Westport Fleas and captured an 11-6 victory on Wednesday at Westport.

Seven runs in the first three innings allowed Merrimack Owls to put pressure on the Fleas early.
A two-run home run by Jimmie Foxx during the first inning and a two-run double by Honus Wagner and a hit by pitch in the second inning fueled Merrimack Owls’ offense early.

Foxx racked up three RBIs on two hits for Merrimack Owls.

Merrimack Owls pushed across two runs in both the third inning and the ninth. In the third, Merrimack Owls scored on an RBI single by Tommy Glavine, plating Jody Davis.

After posting one run in the sixth, Merrimack Owls again scored one in the seventh. In the sixth, Merrimack Owls scored on an RBI single by Rick Monday, scoring Ed Delahanty.
