Fogelberg – The Boggstown Boilers repeated a familiar theme Thursday night as they once again won three out of four games and clinched the American League of the Kansas City Baseball Quadralangular. Led by league MVP and all-time ASB great George Brett, the Boilers breezed through an over matched Fogelberg Falcons club and earned an automatic birth in the Championship series.
“I can sit here and talk about how great Brett is, but honestly, we had a really crappy team,” falcons manager Don Zimmer said. “When you think about all of the fundamentals it takes to win a ball game… We did none of them well this season. Just about every guy in the lineup underperformed, our pitching underperformed, and our defense was atrocious.”
Sweeping every major award in the AL, the Boilers took home the MVP (Brett), Cy Young (Paul Splitorff) and Frisch (Lou Whitaker).
“Seems like Brett wins that thing every season,” Falcons lifetimer Paul Molitor said. “Hell, the Boilers seem to win the league every time. I have a feeling that we are going to see some changes around here… Our fans deserve better than this.”
The KCQL regular season wraps next week when the Merrimack Owls and Westport Fleas square off for NL supremacy and a chance at the Boilers.
