Westport – The Westport Fleas locked in a playoff spot Wednesday by beating their National League counter parts in three out of four games and clinching the National League of the Kansas City Baseball Quad.
“We let two of those games slip through our fingertips,” First year Owls manager Ryne Sandberg said. “I told the guys a few minutes ago that we just need to shut the door on tonight and focus on getting things right in the playoffs.”
Nudging out the Fogelberg Falcons for the final playoff spot, the Owls will be matched again against the Fleas, with the winner of the series playing the Boggstown Boilers for the title.
“We need Garciaparra and Gwynn to carry more weight, Murph needs to keep being the leader of this squad, and the back of the order need to get one clutch hit per game.”
Might be a tall order for a season long group of under-achievers.
