Fogelberg – As the American League playoffs start, the Fogelberg Falcons and the Joplin Crawdads will again look to get on a roll after disappointing seasons. The 3-9 Crawdads, fresh off two straight victories over the 5-7 Fogelberg Falcons, will visit Macintosh Stadium for the first two games of the series and try to continue a resurgence after the arrival of new manager Darrell Porter.
The Dads’ have blasted out 20 or more runs twice this season and have tallied less than 5 twice. This feast-or-famine approach has earned them the worst record in ASB history during a 12 game season, but also shows that they can be a force when they are on their game. Out hitting the Falcons in nearly every offensive category, Joplin lost 6 games by four runs or less during the season.
The Falcons, who dropped 5 of their last 6 games of the season never seemed to find the consistency that Don Zimmer teams are legendary for. They will again look toward a veteran pitching staff led by Johnny Podres to settle the storm and give their offense a chance to breath.
“I think our guys have been pushing too much,” Zimmer said. “I take responsibility… It’s a new season, get on a roll and anything can happen.”
